The Sacramento Kings announced Thursday that rookie shooting guard Malachi Richardson will miss 4-6 weeks after suffering a partial tear of his right hamstring. Richardson was injured with about a minute remaining in Wednesday’s blowout loss to the Golden State Warriors.
Malachi joins a long list of injured Kings alongside Rudy Gay, Omri Casspi, Garrett Temple, and Ty Lawson. The Kings have been playing without a backup point guard lately, with Arron Afflalo filling in when Darren Collison is on the bench. Afflalo, meanwhile, is usually starting at small forward due to other injuries. In short, the Kings are hurt.
The Kings are now down to Afflalo, Matt Barnes, and Ben McLemore to man minutes at the wings. The All-Star break couldn’t get here soon enough. Hopefully the break will allow someone, anyone, to return to action when games resume.
In the meantime, we’ll hope for a speedy return for Malachi, who has been a bright spot for Kings fans this season.
