The Kings are boring as all hell - and it has me excited!

Champagne is wonderful, but I find a nice Chardonnay rather pleasant. A banana split is great, but a single of scoop of vanilla in a cup is still a treat. It can mean a thing if ain’t got that zing.

For the first time in a long time the Sacramento Kings are turning heads and doing it with the ordinary. Nothing up their sleeves. No presto chango! They are making the mundane decision rather than the (silly) splashy one. Will wonders never cease.

I really can’t explain how we got to here from there. Vivek has been looking to demonstrate his clever mind and agile intellect since riding into the California Capitol on his white horse proclaiming playoffs and world wide attention. I signed up - we fans were eager to shed the shackles of the DingDong Maloofs and the head scratching antics of Geoff Petrie. Free us Vivek! He did and proceeded to find new ways to promote chaos and embarrassment to The River City. Fire Malone? Remove the Interim label from Ty Corbin? George Karl? Isaiah Thomas for table scraps? Stauskas? Rondo? Belinelli? No Stretch and the Philly Fleece?

Finally, Boogie Cousins, arguably the most talented Sacramento King to don the purple was abandoned for the long awaited rebuild…

And whaddya know, there seems to be a plan emerging. Not a short cut. It might be jazz, but it’s not Coltrane or Miles it’s Oscar Peterson or Bob James. Maybe Kenny G. Nothing flashy on the decision making side. Just logical steps to build a foundation. It’s a three years out plan not a 1/2 game out of the 8th playoff spot while 7 games under .500 and thinking all’s well. Boring as all hell. And it’s gathering attention.

People are turning heads, fans - the forever hopeful and overly optimistic are always on board but so are the more skeptical majority. Pundits are smiling, not laughing at Sacramento. There is doubt - it’s too soon to put up the Mission Accomplished banner - put stability on the coaching side appears to be there (but we’ve said that before and Joerger is only one season in), sound choices are being made (we’ve said that before), high character easy to cheer for players (not just the rookies but Garett Temple and Kosta Koufas as well). There is a lot to like.

July 1st will be a good test. There are $50M ways to make good and bad decisions and they don’t have to be made all at once. The more good decisions this front office makes the more forgiving we fans will be over the stumbles, because the trajectory up is not a straight line.

Build an identity. What is a Sacramento Kings team supposed to look like this season, in 3 seasons? 5 seasons? Slow and steady wins the race. You don't have to win today to be a winner tomorrow. This current roster has me Sacramento Proud. Apprehensively, let’s see what happens next.
