WE FREAKING DID IT! For the first time in this recent stretch of NBA Draft Lottery appearances, the Kings are going to have a top-3 pick. De’Aaron Fox’s lucky smile was good enough to snag the Kings the #2 overall pick, the first time in the Sacramento-era they’ve had that pick. The Phoenix Suns won the #1 pick while the Atlanta Hawks snagged the #3.

The circumstances leading to this jump show just how crazy the NBA Lottery is. The Kings needed to win all those random games at the end of the season, and then after all that a lost coin toss to the Chicago Bulls gave them the right combinations to jump up while Chicago fell.

The most likely scenario for the Kings is a choice between DeAndre Ayton or Luka Doncic, whomever the Suns don’t choose. Both players are considered the top prospects in this draft and Phoenix will have a difficult decision ahead of them. But the Kings should be happy with either choice as both players fill big needs and would be the best available to boot.

This is a joyous day and perhaps the start of a nice turnaround in luck for the Kings. If the Kings can land a true franchise talent at #2, they’ll be in good shape for years to come.

The 2018 NBA Draft will be held on June 21st, 2018.
