The Sacramento Kings finished their preseason slate by handling business and defeating Melbourne United 124-110. Preseason games don’t tell us much about an NBA team, and that goes double for preseason games against non-NBA teams. Nonetheless, it’s nice that the Kings won with relative ease.
Marvin Bagley III led the way for Sacramento, finishing with 30 points and 14 rebounds. Yogi Ferrell finished with 24 points and 6 assists. I’m glad the Kings upgraded the point guard depth by adding Cory Joseph, but it’s such a nice luxury having a player of Yogi’s caliber as your third point guard.
The Kings were short handed overall, with De’Aaron Fox, Trevor Ariza, Cory Joseph, Tyler Ulis, Tyler Lydon, Harry Giles and Hollis Thompson all sitting as the recovery from injuries. Dewayne Dedmon and Bogdan Bogdanovic we’re healthy scratches as well. The result was seeing minutes from Kyle Guy, Justin James, Caleb Swanigan, and Wenyen Gabriel. Nobody jumped out at me, but I think it made sense for the coaching staff to give those guys some run.
With that, we begin the official countdown to the regular season.
