Sacramento Kings players Harrison Barnes, De’Aaron Fox, and Marvin Bagley III have all been invited to join Team USA camp in Los Angeles this week. The news came from USA Basketball’s Jerry Colangelo following Friday’s Blue vs White scrimmage.
Jerry Colangelo says that Thaddeus Young & Bam Adebayo won’t be going to LA. White & Bagley (from the Select Team) will.— John Schuhmann (@johnschuhmann) August 10, 2019
Barnes was already considered part of the national team, and De’Aaron Fox had been promoted earlier this week. Bagley was a member of the Select Team and wasn’t supposed to be continuing to Los Angeles, but his play earned him an invite over Bam Adebayo and Thaddeus Young, both of whom had been invited as members of the national team. The Spurs’ Derrick White was also invited to LA after originally being on the Select Team.
Team USA now has 17 players, so the roster has not been finalized. Kyle Lowry and Marcus Smart are both traveling to LA but are nursing injuries. It’s unclear if they’ll be able to participate in the FIBA World Cup.
It was great when Fox earned a call up, but after his great season last year it didn’t come as much of a surprise after numerous bigger names dropped out. But Bagley's promotion is really exciting. This is great experience for such a young player, and an honor that shows us just how exciting his future should be.
