With a win against the blazers tonight, the King’s are now in the 9th seed, 3.5 games behind the Grizzlies for the last playoff spot in the west.
The Kings have a back to back tomorrow, playing the 2nd seed in the East, the Toronto Raptors. But, it isn’t all doom and gloom for the Kings because they do play slightly better at home than on the road and surprisingly, they play over .500 on back to back games.
Couple that with the fact that since they moved Bogdanovic to the starting lineup, they are 13/19, you have to believe that they have a chance to not only win tomorrow night’s game, but also, to make the playoffs.
While the Grizzlies are 3.5 games ahead of them in the bracket, if it comes down to a tight playoff race between the two, the Kings hold the tiebreaker, having beat the Grizzlies 3/4 times this season. Also, if they end up tied with the Blazers for the 8th seed, they will advance to the playoffs as well because they have a better conference record than them currently.
Some key games to win coming up are the two games against the playoff pushing Pelicans on 3/12 and 3/23, which will determine any tiebreakers between the teams for the playoffs and the two games against the San Antonio Spurs on 4/1 and 4/8.
If the Kings can win those games and keep up their above .500 record since January 24th, they have a real shot of making the postseason for the first time in over a decade. They can prove here and now that the trio of Fox, Hield, and Bogdanovic can work and making a late push into the playoffs will do just that. It will help to justify giving Bogdanovic max-level money and lock this trio in for the foreseeable future. More than that, though, it will give hope to everyone in Sacramento that finally, change is coming.
